Sausage Dog vs CVShift

Two UK tools that do the same core job. The differences are in the free plan, the downloads and what the paid plan includes.

Reviewed by Anthony, founder · Updated

Short answer

Both tools take your CV and a UK job advert and rewrite the CV for that advert. Both run on Anthropic's Claude, and both say they will not invent experience. CVShift's paid plan is £1 a month cheaper. Sausage Dog's free plan gives three tailored CVs every day with no account, each one downloadable as a PDF or Word file, and Premium adds cover letters, interview practice and a job tracker.

Where CVShift wins

  • The paid plan costs less: £8.99 a month against £9.99, both with unlimited tailoring.
  • It does one thing. If all you want is the CV rewritten, there is less to learn.

Where Sausage Dog wins

  • The free allowance comes back every day. Sausage Dog gives three tailored CVs a day. CVShift gives three in total, and its FAQ says you are then prompted to upgrade.
  • You can try it without an account, and free CVs download as a PDF or a Word file. CVShift's free plan is copy to clipboard, with PDF export on Pro and no Word export listed.
  • Premium covers the rest of the application: cover letters, interview practice, LinkedIn rewrites and a job tracker. CVShift's pricing page lists none of these.
  • Your first payment can be refunded within 14 days, in one click. CVShift's pricing page does not mention refunds.
  • Our privacy policy names who is responsible for your data. CVShift's privacy policy, last updated April 2026, gives an email address but no company name or address.

CVShift details are from cvshift.co.uk, read on 23 October 2026. "Not listed" means its pricing page does not mention it.

Check the numbers, whichever tool you use

CVShift says it "will never fabricate skills, qualifications, or achievements". The before and after example on its homepage, as of 23 October 2026, changes the job title from Software Developer to Senior Software Developer and adds figures such as "2M+ daily requests" and "99.97%" uptime that are not in the original. That is a marketing illustration, and we have not tested CVShift's own output.

It is still the thing to check in any tailored CV, including one from Sausage Dog. Every job title, number and skill should be one you can talk about at interview.

Which should you use?

Use CVShift if you want a single-purpose tool and the lowest monthly price, and you are happy to copy the result into your own document on the free plan.

Use Sausage Dog if you are applying to several UK jobs a week and want to keep tailoring for free, download a finished PDF or Word file, or have the cover letter and interview practice in the same place.

FAQs

What is CVShift?+

A UK-built CV tailoring tool. You paste or upload your CV and a job description, and it returns a tailored version in 15 to 30 seconds. It has a free plan and a Pro plan at £8.99 a month, and like Sausage Dog it runs on Anthropic's Claude.

Is CVShift free?+

Its free plan includes three CV tailors and copy to clipboard, with no card needed. Its FAQ says that after your three free tailors you are prompted to upgrade, so the three are a one-off allowance on an account. PDF export and unlimited tailoring are on Pro, at £8.99 a month.

Is Sausage Dog or CVShift cheaper?+

CVShift's paid plan is £1 a month cheaper: £8.99 against £9.99. On the free plans, Sausage Dog gives three tailored CVs every day with no account, and each one downloads as a PDF or a Word file.

Do either of them invent experience?+

Both say they do not. Sausage Dog keeps your employers, dates and qualifications as they are. Whichever tool you use, read the tailored CV before you send it and take out anything you could not explain at interview.
